The Prettiest Snow Day

If you're from the south (like me) when the weather says it's supposed to "snow", you usually only expect a dusting of snow or just laugh it off because.. let's be real.. it never snows. I grew up in southeast Alabama and we only got "snow" about once every four years and it was never nice, fluffy, dry snow. Instead it was more of a wet and gross slush. I can count all the times I've ever seen snow on one hand. So when the weather said it was supposed to snow yesterday, I brushed it off like it was nothing. About 5 hours into my shift at work, it starts lightly snowing. Again, I didn't think much until I looked out the door about an hour later. I don't think I had ever seen that much snow in my entire life! And it was only getting worse. I had to leave work a little early so I wouldn't be stranded. It took me 2 HOURS to get home and it normally only takes me 15-20 minutes. Traffic was awful. There were so many wrecks! And I don't think I ever reached over 15 mph on the drive, it was bumper to bumper traffic the entire way home.
This morning when I woke up, there were still a few inches of snow on the ground, but I was scheduled to work. I was a little nervous to drive, but I decided to at least give it a try. I left an hour early because I figured it would take me at least that long. So I started my trek to work. It wasn't too bad at first but as soon as I started going up a little hill, my car was not having it. Note: they put dirt on the roads to make it easier to drive, but since we had freezing rain just a few hours before, it became more of a snow/mud mixture. I was getting stuck on hills, swerving in the snow/mud mixture.. I was freaking out to say the least. But I kept driving. It wasn't until I got completely stuck on another hill (where I could hardly move) that I gave up trying to go to work. It took me what seemed like forever to get over that hill. I had to back up, then drive, and then repeat that process quite a few times. I was almost in tears. When I finally got over that hill, I decided to turn around and head home. I learned that I am not equipped to ever drive in such weather.. it gives me mini panic attacks.
When I finally got back home, I got back in bed with my hubby (he is already off for our vacation that starts in 2 days for me). Later, we got up and decided to explore a little bit. We headed down to a nearby park where we took pictures, played in the snow, and made snowballs. When we were too cold to be outside, we went to Starbucks for some hot chocolate to warm us up! But we weren't done exploring yet. We headed to another park across the street for some more exploring and snow day activities. After about 3 hours, we decided to come home. We ate pizza, watched Dexter & played Call of Duty (these things make us happy). I'll probably bake some cookies in a bit, but so far, it's been the best snow day! Thank you Arkansas for giving me my first pretty & fluffy dry snow!!

Date Day!

Date days are my favorite. Date days are where Joe and I plan a day long date. Sometimes it includes doing one thing that takes up the entire day, other times it's trying to pack as many activities as we can into one day! Despite being married, date days don't happen a lot. Our schedules are never the same each week, and some weeks we don't even have one day off together! So we cherish date days whenever we can have them. This past Thursday, I was relaxing on my day off and Joe was going into work, only to find out a little bit later he had the day off. So we decided to have a date day! We left the house with no set plans, just to have fun spending the day together.
What our date day consisted of:
- Taco eating at Local Lime
- Shopping at Nike, Charming Charlie & my (always favorite) Anthropologie
-Thrifting but finding nothing good
- Home Depot run where Joe looked at wood and I drooled over all the succulents
- Froyo eating at Yogurt Mountain
- Jumping & flipping on trampolines at the new trampoline park, Altitude
(the next 2 days we were in so much pain)
- Target run where we bought 4 new dining chairs (they're so perfect)
- Movie night at our house where we watched Footloose, ate popcorn & chocolate and drank Coke

BEST DAY EVER.

Happy Birthday Joe!

This past week my husband turned 25! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating his 24th birthday. He (unfortunately) had to work on his birthday this year, so he opened presents that morning and then I took him to one of our favorite places for a birthday lunch! We ate delicious burgers, laughed (a lot), drank bday milkshakes, and celebrated the life of my favorite person!
But of course, that's not all I had planned. I couldn't simply get by by taking him to just a birthday lunch, so I waited. I waited until Saturday to give him a surprise birthday day! I had planned for a picnic Saturday afternoon, but it was far too cold for an outdoor picnic. Instead, I made homemade pizza and cheese fries and we dined on a blanket in the middle of our home. It was perfect! We then got ready and I made him wear a blindfold for our car ride to Playtime Pizza where we met up with some friends. We ate even more pizza, played laser tag, black light mini golf, pool and arcade games. We were having so much fun! We headed to Samurai next for dinner and stuffed ourselves with sushi, fried rice, chicken and lots of yum yum sauce! Fun fact about Joe, he is obsessed with anything Japanese! From Tokyo, to japanese food, to anime (and it has to be in Japanese.. he will not watch English dubbed anime), to whatever! He even taught me how to count to 10 in Japanese! When we finished, we said goodbye to our friends and Joe and I headed on a quick thrifting trip. Feeling discouraged because we found absolutely nothing while thrifting, we headed to Target. Because Target cures broken hearts. We were in Target for almost 2 hours & it was starting to get late. We made some purchases and headed home! Sang all the way home and cuddled up in our comfy bed as soon as we got home. A successful birthday celebration? I think so!

(I didn't bring my camera along on the birthday adventure, so these are the only three decent ones I had to document the day).
Thanks to all of our friends who helped celebrate the life of Joe!

Welcoming the New Year

2013, you were so good to me! A year full of memories & accomplishments I will never forget.
I graduated from Aveda, moved from Florida to Arkansas, moved into my first apartment, got engaged and married to my favorite human, went on the most amazing honeymoon, made some new friends that I will cherish forever, and added a member to the French family (our cat, Mr. Toski). The best year to date. But 2014, I have high hopes for you! This year (despite being sick) started out wonderful. I got to spend the New Year with my husband & some of my best friends AND my husband got a huge promotion at work. God has been blessing this year already!

In 2014, I hope to:
love others more
be more patient & kind
laugh as much as I possibly can
be contagiously joyful
sing & dance everywhere I go
be the best wife I can be
spend more time with family
become a better cook
learn a new instrument
use my camera more often (not my iPhone)
spend less time on my phone
move into a house
travel to new places
live a healthier lifestyle
read more books
be more like Jesus!

I welcome you, 2014 with an open heart. For all the plans God has for me & my husband this year, I am ready & excited. This year, it's gonna be a good year!

The French Christmas

This was a very different Christmas for me. As I am a newly married woman, I got to celebrate my first married Christmas & start holiday traditions with my husband! I am so excited about all of the traditions we started. We put our tree & decorations up right after Halloween, not to bypass Thanksgiving, but just because we love Christmas! We spent Christmas Eve with Joe's family, opening gifts & playing games all night. And Joe and I got each other ornaments that we opened on Christmas Eve to build up our own personal ornament collection (I got the most amazing Jango Fett ornament & Joe got an Arkansas Razorback ornament)! We bought a fake tree this year because that's what was easiest, but I think next year we're going to cut down our own tree and just have two trees! Because you can never have too many.
Christmas morning we woke up super early & drank hot chocolate, listened to Christmas music, opened gifts & Skyped with my family. My mom, dad, brother & sister live 9 hours away and this was my first Christmas not spent with them so it was nice to get to see them over Skype! We then had our friends, Faith, Aaron & Maddie Marsh over for a Christmas lunch. It was so fun because it was my first Christmas that I got to cook for everyone! I made barbecue chicken topped with cheese, bacon, & chives, mashed potato topped green bean casserole, mac & cheese, rolls, & corn on the cob with mayonnaise, lime juice & creole seasoning. It was delish! The rest of the night, Joe and I spent relaxing (he was sick all of Christmas day but was such a trooper) and we ate cookies, drank milk, and watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. All in all, it was the perfect first married Christmas.
Oh and did I mention Joe got me a Schwinn bicycle? He wins. He wins best present buyer ever!
